Descripción
Malnutrition remains a public health concern in the Philippines, with 23.6% children under five experiencing stunting, and 5% is affected by wasting. These nutrition challenges affect not only physical growth but also cognitive development, academic performance, and future productivity.
Addressing this crisis requires a whole-of-society approach, and that includes faith leaders, who hold deep influence over community values, behaviors, and priorities. Their involvement is critical in shaping solutions that are both culturally relevant and spiritually meaningful.
Through the World Vision Enough Campaign, a Nutrition Dialogue was held with faith-based leaders in Bulan, Sorsogon to:
- Identify spiritual, social, and cultural barriers that prevent families—especially those with malnourished children—from accessing safe and nutritious foods.
- Share practical, faith-consistent strategies for promoting proper health and nutrition in the community, with a focus on reaching vulnerable children.
- Engage faith-based leaders as active advocates in ending child malnutrition.
Through this half-day round table discussion, we hope to encourage joint action and promote learning exchange, enabling faith leaders to play a proactive role in improving the nutritional well-being of children in their community.
