Description
Through PDH Model Project of Caritas Byumba and World Vision International/Rwanda, we have received visitors from World Vision Japan to hearth session of Rugarama village, Akagera cluster.
On the 20th March,2025, 20 delegates from World Vision Japan visited one hearth session site called ‘URUMURI’ located in Nyagatare District, Rwimiyaga Sector, Kabeza Cell, Rugarama Village (Nyagatare AP), where 9 children with underweight were being rehabilitated through 12 days’ hearth session. Activity were include the Caritas Byumba, WVR, parents and caregivers, Community Health Workers, local leaders,Health center Managers, nutritionists and others internees in the nutrition field from the University of Rwanda.
Father Augustin NZABONIMANA, the director of Caritas Byumba was the one heading the activity. He started by introducing everyone to visitors, and then Caritas BYUMBA Staffs continued by explaining what PDH project is , its goals and how it is being implemented by both sides (Caritas Byumba and World Vision Rwanda). There was an opportunity show the benefit of PDH sessions in rehabilitating malnourished children. Referring to statistics, among over 220 that were found underweight through screening in Rwimiyaga sector (AP Nyagatare) 88% of them have been rehabilitated and improving their weight.
Caregivers who attend “URUMURI” hearth session of Rugarama Village explained what they are learning through 12 days of hearth sessions and how their children are improving their nutrition status from yellow to mild and to green. They are thankful for Caritas Byumba, World Vision and Local leaders for thinking about them and bringing the solution for their children who were malnourished. “in the preparation of a balanced diet during hearth sessions, we compose all nutrients (Body building, Energy giving and protective foods). This is essential to our children’s health. They are now wealthy”
Other local leaders including Sector staff and Head of Bugaragara health center and the head of village also took their time to thank World Vision and Caritas Byumba for the good partnership.
The director of Caritas byumba concluded by appreciating World Vision Japan for showing love to Rwanda and World Vision Rwanda, Local leaders for partnership, last but not least to CHWs and Caregivers for the good work they are doing through the rehabilitation of the children in communities.
Feeding children in this event was also appreciated by the community.
