Description
In Burera District, a powerful conversation is taking place—one that puts families at the center of the fight against child malnutrition.
With the joint support of Caritas Byumba and World Vision Rwanda, a community nutrition dialogue brought together parents, health workers, and local leaders to explore how the Positive Deviance/Hearth (PD/Hearth) model can create sustainable change.
The meeting highlighted how simple, positive behaviors—already practiced by some well-nourished children from poor households—can be identified and shared with others in the community.
“The PD/Hearth model doesn’t bring solutions from outside,” said one facilitator. “It helps families learn from what is already working among them.”
Through stories, cooking demonstrations, and real-life examples, participants left the dialogue with renewed energy to take action in their homes and neighborhoods. The solution to malnutrition is not only known—it’s shared. And through PD/Hearth, it’s spreading from one home to another.
