Description
On June 24, 2025, the community of Kageyo joined millions across the continent to celebrate the Day of the African Child—but with a special theme: “Ndera neza Nkure nemye”. they had opportunity of fighting against child malnutrition via sensitization.
Led by Caritas Byumba in partnership with World Vision Rwanda, the event brought together parents, children, local leaders, and health workers for a day of learning, sharing, and mobilization through the Positive Deviance/Hearth (PD/Hearth) approach.
Activities included:
Cooking demonstrations using locally available nutritious foods,
Growth monitoring for children under five,
Testimonies from families who have overcome malnutrition,
Songs, poems, and performances by children promoting good nutrition.
“This day reminds us that African children deserve more than survival—they deserve to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential,” said one local leader.
The event highlighted how community-led solutions like PD/Hearth can transform households, using what families already have to build better health outcomes.
At Kageyo, the Day of the African Child was more than a celebration—it was a commitment to end malnutrition and invest in a healthier future for every child.
