Description
On the 20th of August 2025, Caritas Byumba warmly welcomed distinguished guests in Kageyo Sector. Among them were representatives from World Vision Global, funders of World Vision from Australia, World Vision Rwanda, and the Division Manager of Gicumbi District.
Together with World Vision Rwanda, Caritas Byumba showcased its efforts in the fight against child malnutrition. The visitors observed how children under five, between 6 and 59 months, are regularly screened to identify cases of malnutrition.
Children found to be malnourished are enrolled in a special 12-day Hearth Nutrition Program. During these days, mothers are taught how to prepare a balanced diet using locally available foods. After the 12 days, the children continue to be closely monitored at home for an entire year, to ensure sustainable recovery.
The delegation also learned about Early Childhood Development centers supported by Caritas Byumba. Here, children benefit from holistic care: their health and nutrition are monitored, hygiene and sanitation are emphasized, brain development is stimulated, and the bond between mother and child is strengthened.
As a sign of solidarity, the guests joined parents and caregivers in feeding children with a balanced meal and offering them milk. This moment highlighted the importance of working hand in hand for the well-being of every child.
The visitors expressed their gratitude to Caritas Byumba for its strong collaboration and tireless commitment. They praised the approach of using simple, local foods to prevent and treat malnutrition—an approach that gives even the most vulnerable families hope and dignity.
Caritas Byumba reaffirmed its goal: to ensure that no child in Kageyo, nor anywhere else, should suffer from malnutrition.
