To build stronger, more resilient communities, Caritas Byumba and World Vision Rwanda organized a PD/Hearth training for health workers and local leaders involved in the fight against child malnutrition.

The training focused on equipping participants with skills to:

• Identify positive practices within vulnerable families,

• Facilitate Hearth sessions using local solutions,

• Mobilize communities for behavior change,

• Monitor child nutrition progress effectively.

“The PD/Hearth model teaches us that the solutions to malnutrition already exist in our communities—we just need to recognize and promote them,” said one participant.

By strengthening the capacity of those closest to families—health workers, leaders, and CHWs—the training ensures that the fight against malnutrition is owned and led by the community itself.

This approach is not only practical but also sustainable, helping local systems respond better to the nutritional needs of children under five.
