Description
It is an event of a national dialogue of religious leaders on nutrition to be held at the Western Tower (Level 14), Tejgaon, Dhaka. The objectives of this event are:
1. Amplify local voices of faith leaders, women, and youth on the challenges and solutions for improving nutrition in vulnerable communities.
2. Facilitate theological reflection on hunger and malnutrition, linking faith values to practical action for child well-being.
3. Encourage interfaith collaboration in addressing child undernutrition and promoting food justice.
4. Identify and address the spiritual, social, and cultural barriers (e.g., beliefs, norms, stigma) that prevent families—especially women and children—from accessing nutritious food.
5. Promote practical action planning to address malnutrition, linking faith leaders to policy makers, practitioners, development workers.
6. Provide national and subnational level platforms for faith leaders and FBOs for learning and sharing on enough campaign to end hunger and malnutrition.
The program will start at 9:00 AM with a registration process of the attendants and end at 2pm. There will be total 80 person comprising faith leaders, women, children and youth leaders, representatives from various FBOs and NGOs. The event will be chaired by Chandan Z Gomes who is Senior Director of Operations in World Vision Bangladesh.
Plenary on the country landscape of undernutrition, food insecurity and hunger will be facilitated by Md. Mezanur Rahman, Sr. Manager for Health and Nutrition Technical Program of Bangladesh.
Special Guest and Speaker Rev. Martha Das, General Secretary, the National Christian Fellowship of Bangladesh, will speak on Christian perspective on hunger and malnutrition – translating religious values into practical action for child well-being and the need to increase interfaith cooperation in promoting child nutrition.
S.M. Usman Ganee, Associate general Secretary of Bangladesh National Imam Association and Assistant Professor at the Dhaka Ahsania Mission Institute of Sufism, will share Islamic reflection about the importance of maternal and child nutrition, and educating people to alter detrimental beliefs.
Zubayer Ahmed Al-Azhari, a Religious Trainer at the Imam Training Academy will discuss how religious leaders can contribute at enhancing adolescent health and nutrition. A small group discussion will be conducted by Mridul Toju to discuss the religious and cultural contexts of maternal and child health.
The leader of the subsequent session will be Dr. Rawshan Jahan Akhter Alo, Director of the Institute of Public Health Nutrition, whose speech will discuss the way forward and how religious leaders can ensure nutrition and fight child marriage and child labor. The close and a vote of appreciation by Chandan Z Gomes, Sr. Director for Operations of World Vision Bangladesh will mark the end of the event.
