To address this situation in the country, the children suggested that government should come in and help the schools to grow vegetables in the gardens of the schools so that they can diversify their nutrition. One girl advocated for supporting community gardening: “Encouraging home gardening can enhance food security.” Her suggestion points to practical solutions that not only improve nutrition but also encourage self-sufficiency. The discussions illustrated a collective effort to engage with and promote local food systems as pathways to better nutrition. 4. Community Support Programs: Community support systems were highlighted as essential for improving overall nutrition. 5. Livelihoods: There was universal recognition of the need for economic empowerment. One girl argued specifically for women’s economic empowerment, stating, “[Since 2021] many women have lost jobs. Projects targeting women can uplift their spirits and contribute to the economy.” This recognition emphasises the multifaceted impact of job security on family nutrition. 6. Cultural norms: Addressing cultural norms and actively advocating for change was viewed by some children as essential. One child insisted, “We should challenge beliefs that restrict women and girls from eating properly.” Participants expressed a clear understanding that nutritional needs must not be held back by incorrect beliefs about food and nutrition. One of the primary demands of children is the creation of job opportunities for household breadwinners. Parental unemployment is one of the main causes of food insecurity in these families and children see the consequences of unemployment or failed harvests upon their caregivers' wellbeing. Children told us the authorities should establish projects like tailoring training and they could earn money and have enough food. Other quotes include, "My father is addicted and doesn’t buy anything for us. If we are given flour and oil, my mother can cook food for us." "My father was a farmer, but now ... Children made the following recommendations: 1. Humanitarian aid should be increased and broadened to target all communities in need. 2. Creation of job opportunities for the younger generation is a priority, especially for heads of households. 3. Establishing and implementing long-term development projects by the authorities or organisations is essential to give people more opportunities. 4. Children should be taught the importance of nutrition through the distribution of appropriate learning materials to school-aged children (both inside and out of schools). 5.
